    The lyrics are tremendous, commenting on the need for escape and independence. The Byrds play the song with supreme modesty, but not because they feel the song is rather too straightforward – rather because they recognise the beauty of the purest forms of American music. “Wasn’t Born To Follow” is certainly in that tradition.
